How to Get More Online Reviews

Hottest summer ever, right? So hot the AC practically never stopped running. So when my neighbor told me how they had gotten their windows tinted and how their AC wasn't working so hard, I couldn't pass up the idea. I called and got my windows tinted too. When the owner found out what I do for a living, he mentioned that he had a negative review online and asked for my advice.  Here's what I told him. ONE - Don't [...]

Link Building Shortcuts Don’t Work Like They Used To

There are no more shortcuts when it comes to link building. . . Just as there are no shortcuts when it comes to losing weight. Yep, here comes one of those David McBee analogies...  Enjoy. Stephanie wants to lose 15 pounds. She goes on one of those trendy crash diets. She fasts or she only drinks juice or whatever. She sticks to it for a whole thirty days. At the end of the thirty days, she's lost over ten pounds! [...]

The Birth of PageRank – An Excerpt From “In The Plex”, by Steven Levy

As a student of Search, I try to get my hands on as much information about Google as I can. One author has done a great job of sharing the story of Google's rise to power. Steven Levy's book, "In The Plex, How Google Thinks, Works, and Shapes Our Lives" is really a must-read for anyone in Internet Marketing. Since reading the book when it was first published, I have found myself telling the story of how PageRank was developed [...]

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Infographics But Were Afraid to Ask – Part 1

What is an infographic? An infographic is “information visualized”. That can mean data and statistics turned into charts and graphs or it can be an idea or story told through images. It’s the use of illustrations to tell a story and make data points easier to understand. Infographics should be visually stimulating while conveying a message or informing the person viewing the infographic.  Still not clear? Google Infographics and you’ll see about a billion examples.  Also, later in this post, [...]

How Google Ranks [Infographic]

Great infographic on how Google's algorithm works.  Notice how much emphasis there is on Trust/Authority and Links compared to Onsite factors? Backlinks are so important. I would rather have a messy site (taking SEO factors) with awesome backlinks than a perfectly built (talking SEO again) site with few or poor links.  Links will win every time.

Internet Marketing Land – Prezi and Infographic

I recently created the Internet Marketing Land Infographic and wanted to jazz it up a bit using a cool tool called Prezi.  It is best viewed in full screen mode (by clicking the PLAY button and the the MORE button in the bottom right corner.) If you like it, please comment and/or share with your social networks. The static version of the infographic is below the Prezi. Thanks!  -David   Internet Marketing Land on Prezi Static version below. Please click [...]

A Basic Guide to Guest Posting – by Guest Author, Mariana Ashley

I was recently solicited for a guest blog post here on my blog. It was the most professional and influential request I had ever received via email. The author introduced herself as a freelance writer who had written for many other blogs.  She shared some of her other work and asked to write for my blog in order to enhance her writing portfolio and promote her site.  After reading some of her work, I tentatively agreed to invite her to [...]

Video Blogging Isn’t Easy

Recently, a friend of mine asked me to create some content for his website for him to share with his readers. This is the kind of request that I really love because it gets me some exposure in front of an entirely new audience. Because my specialty is link building, I decided to create a piece on the value of guest blog posts - a perfect topic for a guest blog post, wouldn't you agree? This friend of mine is [...]

How to Build Links Your Competetitors Can’t See – Link Layering

One of the first things most SEOs do when trying to get their sites to rank is to review the sites that are currently ranking well. It simply stands to reason that if their competitors' sites are ranking, then duplicating what they are doing will likely help them get their own site ranking well too. In fact, that's really the cornerstone of SEO. See who's ranking well, analyze what they are doing and duplicate their strategies. When Google's Penguin algorithm [...]
