Recently, a friend of mine asked me to create some content for his website for him to share with his readers. This is the kind of request that I really love because it gets me some exposure in front of an entirely new audience. Because my specialty is link building, I decided to create a piece on the value of guest blog posts – a perfect topic for a guest blog post, wouldn’t you agree?

This friend of mine is a big fan of video blogging (vlogging). He contends (and I agree) that people are more likely to watch a video than to read a 400-500 word article. A position echoed by one of my UK clients who claims that “all Americans have A.D.D.” when it comes to surfing the web. So, this friend asked me to submit my piece as an online video, not an article.

I knew I needed more video on my own website, and I’ve been meaning to create more videos anyway, so this request acted as a catalyst. I purchased a tripod for my iPhone, shaved and put on a nice shirt, got the lighting and background in my office in order and proceeded to create my video.

But it wasn’t easy! I thought for sure I could talk for three to four minutes on a topic I care about, but I kept messing up and having to start over. I made over fifty attempts and still didn’t get it right. I even ran my iPhone out of memory with all my goofs!

At this point, I’m not sure I have the skills to vlog. I’ll likely take another shot at it later, and I may have to figure out how to just edit out the mistakes.

The following is a video taken after about an hour of failed attempts. It certainly has nothing to do with the topic I was trying to discuss, but it definitely demonstrates the exasperation I was experiencing trying to make the video. Now I know why it’s so important to hire a professional video company! Feel free to laugh at me. I do all the time.
